8 DAYS TOUR TO UGANDA’S PRIMATE WORLD

Wilderness Trips limited will take you on a tour around Uganda’s primate world for an upclose and personal experience with Uganda’s’ Gorillas, chimpanzees and endangered golden monkeys. This tour will take you to Kibale Forest National Park which is referred to as the primate capital of the world for its high concentration of primates with thirteen primate species in 795km2.Then Bwindi impenetrable forest national park, home to over 370 gorillas, accommodating almost a half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas and Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary  established in October 1998 to take care of orphaned chimpanzees that have been rescued by Uganda Wildlife Authority from poachers and/or traders, with no chance of survival back to the wild.

DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1: ARRIVAL AND TRANSFER TO HOTEL IN KAMPALA

On arrival you will be picked up by a guide from Equatorial wild safaris who will transfer you to your place of accommodation.

Dinner and overnight:

DAY 2: TRANSFER TO KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast at your Hotel in Kampala, you will be met by our guide who will transfer you to Fort portal town. The journey will take you through the lush green countryside on Mityana-Mubende road to Fort portal and stopover at some coffee holdings tea plantations and open swamp valleys. In the afternoon you will visit the crater region and then in the evening, transfer to Kibale Forest National Park for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3: CHIMPANZEE TREKKING IN KIBAALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, you will head to the Park headquarters at Kanyachu for chimpanzee tracking briefing by the Park Rangers. You will then head into the forest for a Half day search of chimpanzee. The guide will provide detailed explanations, not only on primates, but also on all the forest fauna and flora and will ensure that your walk is both informative and enjoyable

You will return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation

Dinner and overnight:

DAY 4:  TRANSFER TO BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

Begin your day with a cup of coffee. After breakfast you will begin your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable national park which will be you new home for the next two nights.

DAY 5: GORILLA TRACKING
Up relatively early for a hearty breakfast to give you the energy needed for gorilla tracking, with your packed lunch report to the ranger station before 8:00 am for registration and a talk by one of the rangers. The guides will then take you through the bush, pushing your way through the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track the gorillas. (This trek can take from half an hour to 5 hours – a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes). Sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them grumble to each other, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male; the silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas. It’s amazing to think there are only about 800 of these beautiful creatures left

Dinner and overnight:

DAY 6: TRANSFER TO KISORO FOR GOLDEN MONKEY TRACKING IN MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK.

After an early breakfast you will transfer to Kisoro. On arrival in Kisoro you will check into your lodge for Lunch.

After lunch you will head out for golden monkey tracking in Mgahinga national park.Golden Monkeys are attractive looking monkeys with color, since they have been habituated they are used to Humans and do not scamper off as you arrive however when taking pictures they move rather quickly and you will need to set your camera on fast shutter speed with low light setting due to the bamboo forest.

DAY 7: RETURN TO KAMPALA

After breakfast you will begin your journey back to Kampala with a stopover at Igongo culture center for lunch and the Equator crossing for some photo shoots and a visit to the crafts village.

DAY 8: NGAMBA ISLAND THEN DEPARTURE

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the Water Front at Entebbe where you will take boat ride to Ngamba Islands (23km) from Entebbe to visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

Upon arrival at Ngamba Island, you will be welcomed by the duty caregiver of the Chimpanzees.  Pre-arranged supplementary feeding times (11.00 am & 3.00 pm each day) brings the chimpanzees within meters of the raised walkway specially designed for easy viewing and provides excellent photographic opportunities.  After having lunch you will take a boat ride back to Entebbe.

You will return to the airport in the afternoon to catch your flight to your next destination.
